                                                                                                    31172
                                                                                                        310 miles

Up at 05:30 and away by 07:30 after saying our farewells. Good progress to Rosso  where we had difficulties;
  1. Problems with Carne de Passage and they could not understand how we had got through as we had never left Mauritania on our journey south
  2. Ferry did not start until 15:30 and we were there at 13:00. Had lunch on the quay and watched the women washing.
  3. In Rosso Mauritania a barrier was across the road since the road was closed owing to heavy rain. We were sent to the Governor's office but on the way were stopped by a policeman who sent us (and came with us) to the customs office and then insisted that we go to the police station for permission to go along the (closed) road.. They looked at our passports, we filled in forms and then they said we could not proceed until tomorrow. After much debate about hotel,sleeping in a porch or in the tent we went to see the Governor ourselves. We got the permission so the policeman had not phoned the Governor as he said he had.
We proceeded until about 19:00  and then stopped intending to camp. Nick got scared by a few flashes of lightening and insisted we continue or else we would be caught in the flood area. We carried on until 23:00 and then camped, having left the new road and gone about 20 miles on the old track when we need not have.
Heard wolves and again Nick was scared and said he would sleep in the L/R. A passing driver said that there were lions in the area! Nick jumped 15 feet sideways into the L/R when  2 cows walked by ( reported distance from Mo)
Rained a bit in the night and everyone except me got up to put polythene on the L/R roof.
