Sefadu - Freetown 15/10/69
230 milesWoke up in strange house next to number 1 plant. Adib had already disappeared so I got up and walked to Joe's shop. Nick and Chris followed. Had breakfast at Joe's then went to Kassim's to watch the business (diamonds). Photographed some diamonds - large group valued at £3000 and a few clear diamonds valued at £4500. Lunch at Joe's and then we left for Freetown in a Landrover at 16:30.
At 16:50 we were held up in a traffic jam caused by a lorry stuck in the mud. The problem was aggravated by the driver who refused to reverse to make room for vehicles to pass in the opposite direction. Eventually we got though at 18:00; a very interesting encounter but most frustrating had we been in a hurry. Rest of the route OK; bumpy but nothing compared to the Sahara. Had a puncture.
Arrived Freetown at 00:00
