                                                                                                    226  miles

Got up at 06:30 - away by 07:30. Road was very rippily and the roof rack finally cracked. Put the rucksacks inside. Road improved to Nouakchott where we changed our money and bought supplies and cold beer at a Lebonnese store.
Nouakchott is the capital of Mauritania and is very modern and developed since independance. Tarred road and improved road to Rosso - 133 miles in 5 hours.
Just missed the ferry across River Senegal. After paying the fare we foud out that it was the last ferry of the day. Spent the night waiting for the next ferry surrounded by mosquitoes. Had some cakes from the local store and a good steak in front of a large audience
From the camp which was in the desert and on sand we have travelled through increasingly more fertile countryside. Birds are now plentiful and very colourful.
Saw vultures, wild boar and a bevy of chimps.
